Dixie Mine Hike

February 14, 2013

This is the parking area at 14425 Golden Eagle Blvd. in the beautiful town of Fountain Hills, Arizona

This is the first part of the "trail" that actually goes through a very nice neighborhood.

There is the entrance to the exclusive neighborhood.

The first part of the trail is about half a mile of this nice sidewalk through the Desert Fox neighborhood.

The McDowell Mountains are straight ahead.

The "trail" is very nicely marked as you make your way through the neighborhood of beautiful homes.

This sidwalk winds around for about half a mile going first West and then East.
Four Peaks is visible in the distance from this view looking West.

Finally the sidewalk ends and the real trail begins and heads towards the North before turning East.

Here is the real trail head after the sidewalk ends.  $2.00 fee goes in the box on the right and sign the trail log for safety.

This is how the trail looks at the start.  A very easy hike with very gradual elevation gain until you get to the Dixie Mine.

There is Thompson Peak in the distance with the antennas on top.  About four miles from here.

Lots of cholla are glowing in the late afternoon sunlight.

Thompson Peak on the left and McDowell Peak on the right.

Trail sign on the way to the Dixie Mine

There is Thompson peak slowly getting closer.

This is a view looking Southeast toward Fountain Hills and the Superstition Mountains
